Hello, Beautiful! So, how do you talk to yourself? It matters. A lot.
Our self-talk–the way we talk to ourselves, about ourselves–has a massive effect on our body image and sense of self-worth.
What Are You Saying About Yourself?
Many of us have a seemingly endless amount of internal chatter going on about ourselves. Sadly, it’s not always loving or even positive. Sometimes, perhaps even often, the things we tell ourselves are negative and cruel. When you talk to yourself, does it sound like:
I can’t believe you forgot to pick up milk. You’re such an idiot!
You are too fat to wear that bikini.
You’ll never get that promotion because you just aren’t good enough.
The tone of your self-talk can have a massive impact on your body image and sense of self-worth. Even self-deprecating comments in the name of humor can lower your self-esteem.
Try a Little Kindness
If you want to feel better about your body, if you want to feel more empowered, if you want to feel more confident … try monitoring your self-talk!
For example, instead of telling yourself, “I can’t believe you made that mistake. You’re an idiot,” try this: “You made a mistake, and it’s ok. You’re human. Now let’s brainstorm what to do next.”
Talking to yourself with kindness will serve you so much better than being cruel to yourself.
Remember: don’t say anything to yourself or about yourself that you wouldn’t say to a friend.
You are fabulous, you are worthy, and you deserve to be spoken to with respect by everyone. Including yourself.
